Verified Beef Production Plus (VBP+)

What it is

The Verified Beef Production Plus (VBP+) program provides training, audits and certification for producers who want to meet the highest standards of beef production.

Certification qualifies cattle for marketing in sustainable supply chains and means automatic certification with the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef (CRSB).

Developed in 2004 to validate on-farm food safety practices, the program was expanded in 2013 to meet consumer demand for verification of animal care, biosecurity and environmental stewardship. The goal of the program is continuous improvement.

How it works

1. Complete a training process that includes the option to learn online at your own pace or attending a training session provided by the provincial coordinator.
2. Collect records to prepare for certification
3. Go through the audit process, which includes a self-assessment, and make any corrections, if necessary.
4. Maintain your certification by following the program’s five-year audit cycle.
